  - How to use RacerTrac How to use RacerTrac

At MSU – Use RacerTrac
  1. Use RacerTrac, located on the home page under “Quick Links,” and on each Library on Bb page
  2. Search simple keywords in the Basic search
  3. If that does not work well, use the Advanced search and combine simple words
  4. Use broad terms (books are about big topics)
  5. Use nouns (they work better)
  6. Start with one term and add others to narrow the search later
  7. In the results list, click on the title to open an information page about that title
  8. The “call number” is the location of the book in the library.  Write it down.
  9. Books or Media about the same subject are shelved together, so browse that call number area to find more.

Anywhere – Use WorldCat

  1. Register first for ILLiad, the interlibrary loan system
  2. Use WorldCat, located on the home page under “Quick Links,” and on each Library on Bb page to find materials outside of MSU.
  3. Limit the search to what you want – books, visual materials (includes movies), sound recordings (includes music), or musical scores (print only)
  4. Follow the same search techniques as above
  5. In the results list, click on the title to open up a page about that item
  6. If the item is marked with this icon, MURRAY STATE UNIV, then the MSU Library owns a copy.  Come in and check it out!
  7.  If no MSU icon appears, we do not own it. Use the Find it at MSU icon to order the item from another library.
