The Journal of Animal Science uses specific journal abbreviations. Use CASSI to locate a journal's appropriate abbreviation.

In-Text Citations JAS

JAS uses a parenthetical in-text citation containing author and year.

If the Author is named in the sentence

  • Smith reported high concentrations of sulfur (2005).

2 Authors 

  • Dogs make great companion animals and provide comfort to their owners (Johnson and James, 2017)

More than 2 authors of an article, the first author’s name is followed by the abbreviation et al. 

  • JAS is a citation style used by some agriculture students (Smith, et al., 2015)

All sources that are cited in the text must appear in the reference list at the end of the paper.
