Biographical / Historical Information: Elias Hopkins was born on March 27, 1833 in Calloway County, Kentucky. He joined the 1st Kentucky Infantry Regiment, Company F, Confederate States Army, as a Third Lieutenant at Murray, Kentucky on April 26, 1861. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant when the regiment reorganized on April 28, 1862. He mustered out with the rest of his regiment as a First Lieutenant on May 14, 1862 in Richmond, Virginia. He died in 1914.

Scope and Content: Collection consists of a photocopied letter written by Elias Hopkins from Camp Jones, Virginia to A. F. Hopkins of Calloway, Kentucky dated February 14, 1862. The letter mentions the taking of Fort Henry, Tennessee by Union forces and his concerns over the effects it may have on western Kentucky.
