Biographical / Historical Information: Caleb S. Jones was a physician from Farmington, Kentucky. He was born in Suffolk, Virginia on June 3, 1807. He and his family relocated to Henry County, Tennessee in 1838. Three years later the Jones family moved to Farmington, Kentucky. He died at Farmington on June 6, 1863.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of a photocopy and transcript of a letter written by Caleb S. Jones of Farmington, Kentucky to his daughter Sarah Jones in Paris, Tennessee on November 1, 1861. The letter offers the author’s opinion on the events that led to the Civil War and his support for Kentucky’s secession from the Union. He also mentions Confederate troops at Columbus, a skirmish at Mayfield, plundering Union soldiers and a convention to be held at Russellville.
