Biographical / Historical Information: Jonathan C. Young was private in Company H of the 10th Indiana Cavalry Regiment during the American Civil War. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 8, 1864. He was a resident of Warrick County, Indiana. His regiment arrived at Pulaski, Tennessee on June 1, 1864 and remained there until the end of September of 1864. He was mustered out of service on August 31, 1865.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of consists of a photocopied letter from Jonathan Young to his mother from Pulaski, Tennessee on June 7, 1864. The letter discusses his desire to be home with his wife and children and the friendships made with other men in the regiment. He mentions the 42nd Indiana Infantry Regiment and a “seven days fight” sixty miles north of Atlanta.
