Biographical / Historical Information: Sarah Bell Langhorne Waller was born on November 17, 1821 in Maysville, Kentucky. She attended local schools and married Henry Waller, a Maysville attorney, in 1837. In 1860, she and her husband relocated to Chicago, Illinois. During the Civil War, she assisted Confederate soldiers confined as prisoners of war in Camp Douglas. Through her efforts, donations were sent from across the nation which provided clothing and shoes to many of the prisoners during their confinement. She died in Chicago on December 13, 1883.

Scope and Content: Collection consists of a photograph of Sara Bell Waller when she resided in Chicago, Illinois during the American Civil War.
