Biographical / Historical Information: Rufus L. Grogan was born on October 23, 1836 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. His family relocated to Calloway County, Kentucky when he was a child. He attended local schools and later taught in the region. In 1895, he returned to medical school and graduated from the Medical Department of the University of Nashville. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Medical Association and practiced medicine at Murray, Kentucky for over fifty years. He died on April 29, 1918.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of ledgers, debit receipts, disbursements and ephemera associated with Rufus L. Grogan of Murray, Kentucky from 1856 to 1918. The ledgers contain financial records and items purchased by King in 1884 and 1885. The papers contain receipts from numerous businesses that operated in Murray during the latter part of the 19th Century and early part of the 20th Century. Included with the papers are payment notes to the Murray Male and Female Institute from 1886 to 1892.
