In 1917, he began a career in banking as a clerk with the First National Bank of Mayfield. By 1936 Gregory had risen to Trust Officer and Cashier of the bank. From 1923 to 1936, he served as the secretary treasurer for the Mayfield Board of Education. He also acted as campaign manager for his older brother William V. Gregory, who was elected United States Representative for Kentucky’s First District in 1926 and remained in office until his death in 1936. After the death of his brother, Noble was elected to fill his seat in Congress. He was re-elected ten times and served for eleven terms. He was defeated in the 1958 election by Frank A. Stubblefield. Gregory returned to the banking and investing profession in Mayfield. He died on September 26, 1971.
