Biographical / Historical Information: The Murray’s Woman’s Club was organized in 1905 as the “As You Like It Club” with the intention of fostering appreciation of cultural values. A philosophical direction occurred within the organization the following year which focused on community service and civic responsibility. The name changed to the “Woman’s Club of Murray” in 1906 and became affiliated with the State and General Federation of Women’s Clubs in April of 1907. In 1940, the organization constructed a community club house which became the site of its monthly board meetings. The Club was officially incorporated in 1948. The Club was a significant force in the construction of a community hospital in 1948, a county library in 1970 and numerous other civic projects.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of meeting minutes (1940-present) and annual scrapbooks (1916-present) of the Murray Woman’s Club of Murray, Kentucky. Included with the records are newspaper clippings, membership lists, photographs, memorabilia and ephemera produced by the civic organization.
