Biographical / Historical Information: The First District Education Association was established on December 29, 1884 by members of the Kentucky Education Association. The association represented counties in the First Congressional District, which was composed of Ballard, Calloway, Caldwell, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Livingston, Lyon, Hickman, Marshall, McCracken and Trigg. The purpose of the association was to “foster and promote the best interest of education” in the district and in the state. From 1885 to 1927, the organization held their meetings at various locations in the First District. After 1927, they met annually at Murray State University.

Scope and Content: Collection consists of correspondence (1966-1971), meeting minutes (1927-1961) and program announcements (1888-1970) of the First District Education Association of Kentucky. Included with the records are past constitutions and by-laws, transcripts of speeches given before the Association, budget reports and a history of the organization.
