Biographical / Historical Information: C. Hall Allen was an historian, author and columnist for the Paducah Sun Democrat, Madisonville Messenger and Greenville Leader. He was born in White Plains, Kentucky in 1903. He began his newspaper career in Madisonville, Kentucky in 1924 as a cub reporter. During the early 1930s, Allen was an advance man for the Redpath Chautauqua and Lyceum Bureau. He returned to the Madisonville Messenger in 1934 as the sports editor. His career at the Paducah Sun Democrat began in 1942 as the night editor. For the next twenty-five years he worked as an editor at the paper and wrote most of the local and area news. He retired in 1968 and began writing a history of Kentucky. Allen died on April 18, 1972 before the book could be published. He is the author of Center of Conflict: a factual story of the War between the States in Western Kentucky and Tennessee.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of a five volume typescript manuscript titled "History of Kentucky" by author and newspaper columnist Hall Allen. The manuscript was rejected by publishers on the basis that it had no citations or footnotes to the compilation of stories.
