Abstract: Noble Cox enlisted in the United States Navy at age 21. He was sent to Newport, Rhode Island for his basic training where he remained throughout the First World War. Cox studied to be a naval nurse and worked in the main hospital during the flu epidemic of 1918 and 1919. He was in the United States Navy from April 6, 1918 to November 20, 1919.

Biographical / Historical note: Noble Cox was born December 4, 1896 in Kirksey, Kentucky. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Kirksey. He moved to Wingo, Kentucky where he attended high school. He later moved to Detroit, Michigan for a brief time to seek employment
