Abstract: Mary Emma Bleidt discusses managing the post office at Golden Pond, Kentucky and teaching at public schools in the Land Between the Lakes region from the 1920s to the 1940s. She also reflects upon her childhood years working at her grandfather's general store in Golden Pond.
Biographical / Historical note: Mary Emma Bleidt was born in 1909 at Golden Pond, Kentucky. Her childhood years were spent at Golden Pond where she attended the local public schools. After graduating high school she attended Bethel College in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and later Murray State University. She taught school in the Land Between the Lakes region during the 1920s and 1930s. She was appointed postmaster of Golden Pond in 1937 and held that position until 1942. Bleidt's grandfather, William Wilson, owned and operated Wilson's General Store at Golden Pond, which remained in business until 1946.
