Abstract: Thelbert Joyce discusses the following topics; the origin of the community names of Jenny Ridge and Fungo; the history of Ferguson Springs Baptist Church; early funeral services and hearses; description of coffins; tilling corn; cleaning and dressing corps; outdoor baptizing; revivals; preaching styles; hard-shell debates; excommunication; old magistrate laws; ministers working outside the church; ordaining ministers; closed communion; wine and blackberry juice for communion; the alter of prayer; and the effect of sugar Whiskey on the church and community.
Biographical / Historical note: Thelbert Joyce was born in Trigg County, Kentucky at Golden Pond on July 30, 1918. He resided in Trigg County, Kentucky his most of his life. He was a member of the Ferguson Springs Baptist Church.
