Abstract: Bob and Warren Allbritten were born and raised in Hazel, Kentucky. They discuss family and their childhood experiences. Warren describes his military service during the First World War I. Bob reflects upon his service during the Second World War. They mentioned their family farm, their days in school and the daily activities of young boys in rural western Kentucky. They both mention the flu epidemic of 1918. Bob recalls people not only having the flu, but the mumps, measles and whooping cough. Both have recollections of the family farm, where their father grew corn, tobacco and hay for their cattle and horses.

Biographical / Historical note: Warren Allbritten was born on September 12, 1892 in Hazel, Kentucky. Bob Allbritten was born on June 1, 1898 in Hazel, Kentucky. Their father was Toby Allbritten, and their mother was Eliza Meadow Allbritten. Warren served in the First World War and was stationed at Louisville for ten months. After the war, he returned to farming tobacco. He recalled the flu and smallpox epidemics of 1918 and 1919. Bob served during the Second World War at the age of forty-four. He was sent to Washington, D.C. for six months where he worked at the Army hospital. He recalled visiting the White House.
