Abstract: Joe Fields of Marshall County, Kentucky discusses his experience with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) on the construction of the Kentucky Dam. He recounts the day he was hired and his assigned duties as a mail-carrier on the worksite. He recalls employee horseplay, safety concerns, alcohol consumption on the worksite, thievery, social interactions, labor unions and racial relations.

Biographical / Historical note: Joe Fields was born on June 29, 1926 in Benton, Kentucky. He graduated from Benton High School in May of 1943 and began to work for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) on the Kentucky Dam in July of the same year. In May of 1944, he volunteered for military service in the United States Navy. After his discharge he returned to TVA and worked on other construction projects until 1958 when he resigned and began to work for the Gilbertsville Post-Office.
