Historical Information: Kala M. Stroup served as president of Murray State University from 1983 to 1990. Prior to serving as president at Murray State she served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Emporia State University and held several administrative positions at the University of Kansas. Stroup earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech and drama with Phi Beta Kappa honors, a master's in psychology and a doctorate in speech communication and human relations. Her contract was not renewed by the Board of Regents in May of 1989. The final year of her contract she served as a representative of Murray State at the Washington office of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. After leaving Murray State she served as president at Southeast Missouri State from 1990 to 1995 and currently is the Commissioner of Higher Education for the State of Missouri.

Scope and Content: Collection consists of newspaper clippings, press releases and ephemera of the presidency of Kala M. Stroup while at Murray State University from 1983 to 1990.
