Historical Information: Home Economics courses were first offered at the Murray State Normal School in the fall of 1924. The department was organized in the fall of 1928 and taught classes in food preparation and small scale manufacturing of clothing. The program changed its title in 1995 to the Department of Family and Consumer Studies. In 2001, the program was restructured and became part of the Department of Adolescent, Career, and Special Education.
Scope and Content: Collection consists of photographs and slides taken and retained by the Home Economics Department and of Murray State University from the late 1940s to the late 1990s. The photographs are of classroom activities, events sponsored by the department, physical facilities and individual and group photographs.
