Computer Lab

The Makerspace computer lab includes 12 PCs with dual monitors. Each PC is fully spec'd out to handle intensive video editing, game development, 3D modeling, and much more. Installed software will differ between machines, see below for a detailed list of programs and their corresponding computers.

Software List and Locations

Software Description  Installed Computers
3DCoat Digital sculpting program developed by Pilgway. Designed to create free-form organic and hard-surfaced 3D models from scratch. 3DCoat combines features from a variety of software packages into one program. Allows for sculpting, texture painting, UV editing, PBR texture painting, and 3D rendering all in one workspace.  1-12
Rhino 7  3D modeling software developed by Robert McNeel and Associates. Rhino is a NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) modeler. NURBS are a mathematical representation of 3D modeling that can describe any shape, from a simple 2D circle to the most complex 3D organic surface you can think of.  1-12
Netfabb Software used to repair, rotate, and process 3D models for use in additive manufacturing. The software works with triangle mesh and parametric models. 1-12
Meshmixer 3D modeling and printing software optimized for speed and efficiency. Focused on users that don't have extensive training in more advanced CAD software, Meshmixer supports drag-and-drop mesh mixing, 3D sculpting, and surface stamping, 3D patterns and lattices, remeshing and mesh simplification, and stability analysis.  1-12
Notepad++ A simple and open-source code editor, Notepad++ supports dozens of languages and tabbed editing for working with multiple files at once.  1-12
Netbeans Open source development environment for the java programming language, it also supports C/C++, PHP, HTML5, and more. Netbeans is a feature-rich editor with cross-platform support, a modular format, and a long list of plugins to assist with code creation.  1-12
Blender Free and open-source 3D creation suite, Blender supports the entire 3D process from beginning to end with modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, composition, motion tracking, and video editing. Blender is the most powerful free 3D suite in use today, and competes with several other programs worth thousands of dollars.  1-12
Sculptris A virtual sculpting software program, focused primarily on emulating clay modeling. Sculptris is a very lightweight program that anyone can pick up without much technical knowledge. It's a great way for beginners to get a feel for 3D modeling.  1-12
Onshape Cloud based 3D design software. Using cloud computation, Onshape allows multiple people to collaborate on a single design, or send finished parts to Onshape servers for detailed structural analysis.  1-12
Adobe Cloud A suite of software from Adobe including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, XD, and Acrobat DC. Used for graphic design, video/photo editing, web development, and animation.  1-6
Flstudio A digital audio workstation developed by Image-Line Software. FL Studio comes with a built in mixer, pattern-based music sequencer, a piano roll, and dozens of instruments and effects. Used by many high profile artists to create music.  10-12
Cura Cura is an open source slicing application for 3D printers. Cura works by cutting model files into layers and generating code specific to the 3D printer in use. It's the most popular slicer software available, processing more than 1.4 million print jobs per week.  1-12
Qidi Slicer 3D slicer software, similar to Cura but tailored specifically for Qidi brand 3D printers. 1-12
Unreal Engine Editor Unreal Engine is a 3D creation tool developed by Epic Games and is primarily known as a game creation studio, though the software is also used in architecture, film, virtual reality simulations, and automotive development. It is considered one of the most advanced 3D creation tools in existence and is certainly the most advanced of the free software available.  1-12
Lightburn Control software for laser cutters. Lightburn can adjust cutter settings like power and speed, import art in vector graphic formats, and edit/create vectors within the software.  1-12
Oculus Software used with Oculus Rift VR headsets. Allows you to change headset settings and download applications for use with the headset. 9-12
Steam Steam is a digital distributor for video games and software. 9-12
Zbrush Zbrush is a digital sculpting tool that combines 3D/2.5D modeling. Using traditional sculpting methods and proprietary "pixol" technology, Zbrush is capable of creating models of 40+ million polygons. Zbrush also offers easy integration with other 3D programs like Maya and Blender. 1-6
Maya Maya is a 3D graphics application used to create assets for visual effects, video games, and animations. It comes loaded with tools for modeling, animation, simulation, lighting, and more. Maya is essentially the industry standard application for visual effects production.  1-12
