We offer the New Faculty Academy in Canvas to our new Faculty! Our newly designed NFA includes important resources via Canvas Learning Modules. Faculty may access the NFA featured sessions by self-enrolling here prior to, during, and after the two-day Virtual New Faculty Orientation via Zoom. Our FDA is a virtual space (via Canvas) for you to access on-demand professional development resources in areas that include, but are not limited to, the following: Strategies for Teaching and Learning, Teaching Well With Technology, Scholarly Activities, Promotion and Tenure, Leadership, Wellbeing and Work-Life Balance.

What else is in this FDA for me?

In this self-paced academy, you have opportunities to do the following:

  1. Access on-demand resources (e.g., session recordings and handouts)
  2. Reflect on your learning (including personal application or plans to apply what you learned), and earn badges and certificates

Technology resources

College Tech Coordinators

Each college/school has its own Tech Coordinator. Depending on your coordinator, you may or may not have Administrative Rights (Admin Rights) to your Murray State computer.  This means you may not be able to download software, browser plugins, etc. 

  • Need to update Adobe Acrobat? You may need to ask your Tech Coordinator to do it for you.  
  • Need to update Java or Flash? You may need to ask them to do it for you.  
  • Need to update the plugins for those and enable them in all of the different browsers? You may need to contact your Tech Coordinator...     

Contact your Department's Administrative Assistant to get your Tech Coordinator's name, email, and phone number. 

Meet with him/her as soon as possible to ensure your computer is set up with what you need.'

Technology Support & Consulting Services

Technology Support & Consulting Services (TSCS) maintains the Service Desk and Support Site for the university. It also administers online learning tools such as Canvas, Akindi and the Respondus suite.

The Service Desk can assist with account information and password resets (Network, myGate, etc.). 

Normal operating hours are Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During June and July, summer hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you need support after hours or on weekends, please visit the Support Site.

Canvas training

How can I get a free copy of Microsoft Office?

Office 365 Education is a collection of services that allows you to collaborate and share your schoolwork. It’s available for free to teachers who are currently working at an academic institution and to students who are currently attending an academic institution. The service includes Office Online (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote).

  • Eligibility: Be a full-time or part-time faculty or staff member at an academic institution and
  • Have a school-specific email address provided by the school (for example, murraystate.edu) that can receive external email.
  • Be of legal age to sign up for an online offer individually (13 years old).
  • Have Internet access.
